A setterless heat treatment apparatus capable of detecting the breakage of a treatment object in a furnace in an inexpensive, early and secure manner is provided. A heat treatment apparatus(10) comprises: covering members(11-14) for covering the circumference of a transfer path for transferring a treatment object(20); a plurality of transfer rollers(2) respectively supported at a plurality of positions along the transfer path such that the transfer rollers are freely rotatable; a plurality of inner members(31-34) disposed below the plurality of transfer rollers along the transfer path; an exposing part(5) exposed to the outside by passing through the covering members from at least one of the plurality of inner members; a vibration detecting means(4) disposed on the exposing part to output a detection signal by detecting the vibration that is generated when some of the treatment objects that is being transferred along the transfer path are dropped to the inner members; and a controlling means for controlling the driving of the transfer rollers based on the detection signal so as to prevent a part of the treatment objects dropped from contacting treatment objects that are subsequently transferred.
