To damp torsional oscillations in multi-stage reduction gearing driven by a synchronous A.C. electric motor, e.g. for a clock or time-switch- and hence to reduce noise, a gear-wheel 15 at the high speed end of the gearing carries curved spring fingers 24 which frictionally engage a fixed flat surface. The gear 15, a pinion 17, and the fingers 24 are moulded in one piece, e.g. from nylon.
