PREPARATION OF BIOCOMPATIBLE PORCINE SMALL INTESTINAL SUBMUCOSA POWDER WITH PHASE TRANSITION BEHAVIOR

Porcine based small intestinal submucosa powder with bio-compatibility and phase-transfer property is provided to be effective to prepare injection type hydro-gel and drug transfer formulations thereof, and/or supporting materials for tissue engineering uses by processing small intestinal submucosa tissues with an acid solution and pepsin then pH adjusting the processed tissues with a basic solution. A submucosa powder is prepared by admixing small intestinal submucosa tissues in an acidic solution and pepsin to obtain a solution containing the tissues and adjusting pH of the solution to bio-compatible pH level with a basic solution. The submucosa powder is bio-compatible powder capable of sol-gel phase transferring and is used to produce a hydro-gel for injection use to discharge drug contained in the hydro-gel slowly by injecting the submucosa powder into an aqueous solution to form the gel instantly. The submucosa powder is in the sol phase at ordinary temperature and becomes the gel phase when the powder is introduced into a live body.
