An apparatus and a method for encoding a multi-view moving picture are provided to improve predictive efficiency and a compression rate by adaptively selecting a position of an I-frame which is a standard when compressing and encoding the multi-view moving picture. A multi-view moving picture input unit(710) receives a multi-view moving picture. An I-frame position determining unit(720) determines a position of an I-frame which is the standard of multi-view moving picture coding according to a characteristic of a multi-view frame located at a certain time. An encoding unit(730) performs the multi-view moving picture coding on the basis of the determined I-frame.
