The seat back (1) consists of a cushion (2) a frame (3) and a supporting layer (4) made from a rigid metal grid (5) fixed to the frame, and a covering layer (6) of reinforcing material. The grid is made from 4 mm steel rod joined in a rectangular mesh of 160 x 190 mm cells, and the covering layer can be of a material based on cellulose fibers or extruded plastic. A further outer trim layer can be of carpeting material.
