A RETRACTABLE TRIHEDRON RADAR REFLECTOR FOR LIFE BOATS AND SMALL BOATS

A receiving-type trihedron radar reflector for a life boat and the radar reflector is provided to increase detection probability by scattering a radar signal for the ship in all directions, thereby improving radar reflection performance of the life boat and the small ship. In a receiving-type trihedron radar reflector for a life boat and the radar reflector, a radar reflector body(100) is composed of an outer shell(110) contracted or expanded according to the charging state of compressed helium gas and an inner reflector(120) folded and contained in an inner space of the outer shell at normal times and automatically unfolded in an emergency when the volume of the outer shell is expanded by injecting the compressed helium gas. The radar reflector body floats in the air by expanding the volume of the outer shell through charging of the compressed helium gas. A radar reflector receiving box(200) temporally contains the radar reflector body if the compressed helium gas is charged in an inner space of the outer shell. A rope(300) joins the radar reflector body to the radar reflector receiving box so that the radar reflector body, floating while the compressed helium gas is filled in the inner space of the outer shell, is kept afloat in the air separately from the radar reflector receiving box in a predetermined gap without completely separating the radar reflector body to the air. The expanded shape of the inner reflector forms one sphere comprising 12 reflecting plates of the same fan-shape and size by radially combining 8 trihedron-type reflector elements with good reflection characteristic, with centering on the same center of a sphere. Spring hinges are installed at least one of three inner edges of each reflector element. The reflecting plates are folded or unfolded by the spring hinges.
