A method for inputting a Chinese character with a basic stroke and a storage medium storing basic stroke information are provided to enable a user to input the Chinese character even if the user does not know sound, a root, the number of strokes, and a collateral word by inputting the Chinese character with only the input of the basic stroke forming the Chinese character. Basic stroke information forming the Chinese character is constructed in a database together with the Chinese character(S10). The basic strokes are classified and integrated into each basic stroke group depending on a similar shape(S11). A display window is formed to display the basic stroke groups to a computer screen(S12). The display window is displayed to the computer screen(S13). The user selects more than one basic stroke group in the display window(S14). A result screen is formed by calling all Chinese characters having the basic stroke included to the selected basic stroke groups from the database(S16).
