Provided is a composition for treating hepatitis C virus showing excellent inhibition activity on an RNA polymerase of hepatitis C virus so as to be used for preventing and treating acute C hepatitis, chronic C hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer. The pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating hepatitis C virus comprises a compound represented by the formula(1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an effective ingredient. In the formula(1), R1 is a group represented by the structural formula(1-a), R2 is C1-6 alkyl or benzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted with C1-6 alkoxy, and R3 is carboxyl. The compound of the formula(1) is selected from the group consisting of 1-p-tolyl-5-[5-(2-carboxyphenyl)furan-2-ylmethylene]-2-thioxodihydropyrimidine-4,6-dione, 1-p-tolyl-5-[5-(3-carboxyphenyl)furan-2-ylmethylene]-2-thioxodihydropyrimidine-4,6-dione, 1-phenyl-5-[5-(4-carboxyphenyl)furan-2-ylmethylene]-2-thioxodihydropyrimidine-4,6-dione and 1-p-ethoxyphenyl-5-[5-(2-carboxyphenyl)furan-2-ylmethylene]-2-thioxodihydropyrimidine-4,6-dione.
