<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight assembly capable of reducing changes in luminance, and a liquid crystal display device having the same. <P>SOLUTION: This backlight assembly comprises a light guide plate including a side surface having a fitting groove, an upper surface and a lower surface, the fitting groove having a first side surface, a second side surface opposed to the first side surface, and a light incident surface connecting the first and the second side surface to each other, wherein an inlet of the fitting groove close to the side surfaces has a first width, while the light incidence surface of the fitting groove has a second width greater than the first width.
