PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an optical pickup from mistakenly entering an embossed pit section in a lead-in area when seeking a head address of a DMA in the lead-in area of a DVD-RAM disk at start-up of the DVD-RAM disk. SOLUTION: At the start-up of the DVD-RAM disk, the optical pickup is subjected to thread moving to the embossed pit section in the lead-in area being an innermost circumference of the DVD-RAM disk. Then, the optical pickup is moved to an intermediate address of a zone 0 in the data recording area adjacent to an outer circumference side of the DMA in the lead-in area of the DVD-RAM disk by a normal seek so that the optical pickup is moved to the head address of the DMA in the lead-in area of the DVD-RAM disk by repeating interval jumps.
