PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect detection method, capable of precisely, easily, and quickly confirming and evaluating a defective part of a transparent gas barrier film, having a transparent inorganic oxide evaporation layer laminated on a transparent plastic base member. SOLUTION: The transparent gas barrier film having the metal oxide evaporation layer is laminated on a transparent protective film, on which an adhesive agent composed of a material, having an unsaturated bond in a molecular chain is applied to form a test sample. The test sample is left, as it is, in iodine gas; and when a defective part exists in the transparent gas barrier film, having the metal oxide evaporation layer, the defective part is specified, by observing density difference in coloring by the iodine generated by the contact of the iodine with the adhesive agent through the defective part.
