A process for producing fine phthalocyanine pigment particles which comprises dissolving a phthalocyanine pigment in a good solvent containing a pigment dispersant comprising a compound represented by the general formula (I) to prepare a pigment solution and mixing the solution with a solvent which is compatible with that good solvent and is a poor solvent for the phthalocyanine pigment to precipitate the phthalocyanine pigment as nanometer-size particles.
