PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a melanogenesis inhibitor having both an active oxygen scavenging action and a tyrosinase inhibitory action, effectively controlling melanogenesis, and an active oxygen scavenger having excellent active oxygen scavenging ability.

SOLUTION: An extract of watermelon is used as the active ingredient of the melanogenesis inhibitor. An extract of leaves of watermelon is used as the active ingredient of the active oxygen scavenger.
