PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a timing of turning on/off a light source in interrupting reading of an image scanner, while considering power consumption and a time required for stabilizing the light source. SOLUTION: When reading is interrupted, the image scanner predicts a read restart time (read interruption time), and determines whether the light source should be turned off, depending on whether the restart time is longer or shorter than the light source stabilization time. When the light source is turned off, the image scanner predicts the read restart time (read interruption time), and determines the lighting start timing of the light source so that the light source stabilizing time can be ensured.
