PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To back up data from a first recording medium present in a casing to a second recording medium at higher speed. SOLUTION: An index file uses a recording order showing a file recording order as an identifier to manage files in a hard disk incorporated in a device. When backing up data from the hard disk to a recording medium of a backup destination, a maximum recording order in backed up files is stored as the final recording order into the backup destination. During the next backup, the maximum recording order of the files in the hard disk is compared with the final recording order stored in the backup destination, a file having a recording order whose value is larger than that of the final recording order is read from the hard disk and recorded at the backup destination.
