PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system with an abnormal sound monitoring function improved in economicity and maintainability by remarkably enhancing a construction property in comparison with a conventional case where wiring is directly laid out from sensor equipment to a master unit. SOLUTION: In a telephone system including one or more extension terminals 20-23 and a master unit 10, the master unit 10 comprises an abnormal sound storage section 15b for registering one or more abnormal sounds, an abnormal sound detection section 15c for detecting the registered abnormal sounds and an automatic notification section 16 for automatically carrying out a predetermined notification operation. When the abnormal sound detection section 15c detects an abnormal sound registered in the abnormal sound storage section 15b from an extension terminal, the automatic notification section 16 automatically carries out a notification operation corresponding to the abnormal sound.
