PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tool steel in which dimensional changes at heat treatment can be minimized while maintaining mechanical properties required of various tools such as dies. SOLUTION: The tool steel has a composition consisting of, by mass, 0.60 to 1.00% C, 1.40 to 2.60% Si, 0.10 to 0.70% Mn, 0.01 to 0.50% Cu, 0.01 to 0.50% Ni, 6.0 to 8.5% Cr, 0.5 to 1.80% Mo+0.5W, 0.02 to 0.20% V, 0.0001 to 0.020% S and the balance essentially Fe with inevitable impurities.
