PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for effectively preventing or treating alopecia. SOLUTION: The composition for suppressing alopecia or a composition for promoting hair restoration comprises an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of (a) a PEDF (pigment epithelium-derived factor), (b) a mutant of the factor having characteristics functionally comparable to the PEDF (a) and (c) a vector containing a nucleic acid molecule encoding the factor (a) or the mutant (b).
