PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a glass material is easily adhered on the surface of a pressing die during molding because a softening temperature is higher than that of conventional glass when glass containing an oxide such as B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and Li<SB>2</SB>O and used in recent years for a material of an optical element is machined. SOLUTION: In the glass machining member, at least a surface to be brought into contact with a glass material is composed of a ceramic consisting essentially of titanium carbide and containing 3.5-7 mass% molybdenum carbide, and the glass machining member has strength withstanding even repeating use, and also the glass machining member is softened by heating and the wettability with glass being a material to be machined having reduced viscosity is lowered by the molybdenum carbide and the glass machining member has excellent preservation of releasing property with a low-temperature softening glass having a high melting point.
