PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimming control circuit capable of detecting a change within a relatively short time of light intensity of a display screen surrounding in case of the occurrence of such change and averting the execution of erroneous luminance adjustment of back light. SOLUTION: In the dimming control circuit (40) for controlling the back light of a display panel (100), a plurality of sampling values dispersed in time are acquired by capturing the detection signals from a plurality of optical sensors (PS1 to PS5) in time division into a common sampling means (41). The circuit is provided with a function to measure the surrounding light intensity by majority decision based on the plurality of the sampling values and to output the result of the decision to the outside.
