PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a cylinder block, in which method, a cylinder liner does not deform even when the cylinder block has deformed, and further to provide a cylinder block. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the cylinder block 10 having a water jacket 15 for circulating cooling water therein and the cylinder liners 12 integrated with each other by casting the cylinder liners 12 having sliding surfaces for pistons 26 on the inside surfaces thereof by holding the cylinder liners 12 inside an upper mold 20 and a lower mold 21, the method includes a step of casting the crankcase side openings 12b of the cylinder liners 12 in the state that the crankcase side openings 12b have been expanded by means of the upper mold 20 and the lower mold 21, and a step of providing clearances by pealing the portions, which are from the crankcase side openings 12b of the cylinder liners 12 to the position above the bottom portion 15a of the water jacket 15, from the outer cylindrical portions 11 of cylinder bores by the restoring force of the expanded cylinder liners 12 or forcedly.
