摘要 <p>A nondestructive examination method enabling the three-dimensional quantization with an arbitrary aspect ratio and a gradient of damage such as a crack buried in the object, a crack exposed on the surface of the object, or a thinned portion of the object. A damage detecting device enabling the detection of a crack at higher speed and a damage detecting method are disclosed. A damage detecting device and method for detecting a damage occurring in an object comprises current applying means for applying current so as to bring an examination portion of the object into an electrified state, potential difference measuring means for measuring a potential difference with a predetermined interval in the examination portion, and analyzing means for detecting the existence of a damage and its shape if any on the basis of the potential difference data collected by the potential difference measuring means. The analyzing means assumes a parameter for specifying a virtual damage and, on the basis of the potential difference data, performs computation by the maximum likelihood estimation about a double body composed of two objects with their front surfaces joined together and further about a quadruple body composed of such two double bodies with their back surfaces joined together and thereby computes the maximum likelihood estimate of the parameter.</p>
