<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To load a tape cartridge in a housing case always with a proper posture and a direction by clearly indicating the loading direction of the tape cartridge to attract the attention of a user when the tape cartridge is inserted to be housed in the housing case, in the housing case for protecting the tape cartridge whose outer contour line seen from a plane is nearly square. <P>SOLUTION: A case body of a tape cartridge is provided with a loading indicator for indicating a loading direction with respect to tape drive. A housing case is made of a square box type plastic molded article, and provided with a case indicator similar to the loading indicator on the outer surface of its upper wall. When the tape cartridge is housed in the housing case, the case indicator disposed in the housing case is always seen.
