PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder discriminating device for an engine capable of discriminating cylinders without having a bad influence on reverse rotation detection or the like. SOLUTION: When reverse rotation detection during idling stop control of a reverse rotation restart style is done by signal of two crank angle sensors 31A, 32B (first crank angle signal CA1 and second crank angle signal CA2), a position of tooth lack part 30b of a crank plate 30 is set to a position excluding crank angle range A in a position (ATDC 100-120°) stopping an expansion stroke cylinder #1 and having a bad influence on reverse rotation detection, excluding predetermined crank angle range B before TDC of compression stroke cylinder #3, and excluding predetermined range C near TDC side of stop position of the expansion stroke cylinder #1 which is ATDC 100-120°.
