PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkali cellulose having a uniform distribution of the alkali in the alkali cellulose in a good efficiency. SOLUTION: This method for producing the alkali cellulose comprises a process of bringing pulp into contact with excess alkali metal hydroxide solution continuously in a pipe type contactor, and a liquid removal process of draining the obtained contacted materials. Also, the method for producing cellulose ether by using the alkali cellulose is provided. Further the device for producing the alkali cellulose is equipped with the pipe type contactor installed with at least one putting-in port of the pulp and alkali metal hydroxide solution at one end and at least one taking-out port of the contacted material at another end, transferring the pulp and alkali metal hydroxide solution from the one end to the other end while making a contact with each other and being taken out from the other end, and a draining means for separating cake from the taken out contactant material.
