<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for identifying pharmaceutical packaged in one package, permitting efficiently and accurately determining the type of the pharmaceutical packaged in one package using terahertz waves. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, the type of the pharmaceutical is identified, based on response at the time of terahertz wave irradiation and visible light image information. This device comprises an irradiation means for irradiating the pharmaceutical packaged in package with terahertz waves, a detection means for detecting the response from the pharmaceutical, an image acquisition means for acquiring the visible light image information of the pharmaceutical, and an identification means for identifying the type of the pharmaceutical, based on the response and the visible light image information. It is also possible to comprise a determination means for determining whether or not the type of the pharmaceutical identified by the identification means be coincided with the type of pharmaceutical to be prescribed.
