PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise a video quality level of a projection image by suppressing fall of vividness in a chromatic area included in an image data, and by reinforcing illumination in an achromatic area. SOLUTION: A white-boost control circuit 71 controls reinforcement of a light quantity used for forming the projection image to an area which is the achromatic area detected by an achromatic area detection circuit 86 and is a light part area detected by a light part detection circuit 87. Then, a reinforcement amount of the projection image is varied according to an average luminance level of each frame detected by an average video level detection circuit 88 and a video chromatic percentage detected by a video chromatic percentage detection circuit 89.
