PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for sidewall effective in taking the environment into consideration and making a preparation for a future reduction in petroleum supply and improving tear strength, resistance to flexural crack propagation and durability in balanced state without increasing the hardness, and provide a method for producing the rubber composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for sidewall contains 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component containing 30-80 wt.% natural rubber and 20-70 wt.% epoxidized natural rubber, 15-60 pts.wt. of silica and 2-20 pts.wt. of a plasticizer derived from non-petroleum resources and having a double bond. The method for producing the rubber composition preferably contains (1) a step to knead natural rubber, silica and the plasticizer derived from non-petroleum resources and having a double bond and (2) a step to knead the kneaded mixture obtained by the step (1) with the epoxidized natural rubber.
