PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and reagent capable of performing a reliable diagnosis of progressive multiforcal leucoencephalopathy (PML), and a means for capable of being used as a therapeutic treatment in the case of the PML disease. SOLUTION: The virus like particles consisting of a multiple number of molecules of a viral protein 1 (VP1) of JC virus (JCV) belonging to human polyoma viral group, and the virus like particles consisting of recombinant VP1s are provided.
