<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of an image of a person's face without requiring a special setting operation by a user when the person's face is photographed. <P>SOLUTION: A face detecting means detects the person's face in a picked-up image (S102). A histogram data calculating means sets a wave detecting region of the face in the picked-up image on the basis of the face detecting information (S106). The luminance in at least the wave detecting region of the face is detected from a picked-up image signal to calculate the histogram data (S107). A target luminance setting means sets a target luminance range suitable for the brightness of the face (S109). When the face is detected by the face detecting means, an exposure control quantity calculating means compares the set target luminance range with the luminance at a peak position of the histogram data corresponding to the face detecting region or with a luminance region around the peak position, and calculates a control quantity for an exposure adjusting mechanism on the basis of a result of comparison (S110). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
