<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of restraining image density fluctuation caused by a control delay resulting from a decrease in the frequency of image formation for each type. <P>SOLUTION: The degree of priority of control for each dither input by an operator via an input image screen is obtained (S33). Based on the obtained degree of priority, the frequency of control of each dither is determined (S34). The control of each dither is as follows: the frequency of the control of 133-line dither is ten times, that of 190-line dither is five times, and that of 266-line dither is one time. Based on the frequency of control of each dither, the order of formation of a density detection image pattern Q is set for each dither and each color (S42).
