<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator for an airbag device for side surface collision capable of accomplishing miniaturization and light weight while maintaining high performance. <P>SOLUTION: A cup member 31 filled with a transfer charge 30 and a gas generating agent molding body 26 exist in a cylindrical housing 11 having a gas discharge port 12. An interval (A<SB>1</SB>) of an annular clearance (gas discharge route) of a peripheral surface 33 of the cup member opposed to the gas discharge port 12 and an inner peripheral surface 11c of the cylindrical housing is smaller than a size (A<SB>2</SB>) of the minimum dimension part of the gas generating agent molding body 26.
