PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gold-binding protein that can be used for binding gold to a target substance in a fine structure and can specifically bond to gold, to provide a complex protein containing the protein, and to provide a technique for utilizing the complex protein for detecting the target substance. SOLUTION: This is a protein having the bonding property to gold in which the above-stated protein includes at least one or moreβbarrel structure units and the bonding property is caused by a plurality of amino acid sequences having different bonding property and has the dissociation constant Kd of the protein to gold satisfies Kd≤1×10<SP>-5</SP>M.
