PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control system improving reliability of a vehicle applying brake by a mechanical brake driven by an actuator at a time of automatic stop of a drive power source. SOLUTION: The vehicle control system provided with a brake control part 40 controlling the actuator 20 changing over between a braking condition and a releasing condition of the mechanical brake 10 braking wheels of the vehicle, a diagnosis part 41 diagnosing function of the brake control part 40 and outputting fail signal when abnormality is detected, and a power control part 70 automatically stopping the drive power source for the vehicle when an operation condition of the vehicle satisfies a predetermined vehicle stop judgment condition, is constructed for the power control part 70 to prohibit automatic stop of the drive power source when the diagnosis part 41 outputs fail signal.
