PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for storing an upper unit which prevents damage to the upper unit and a base machine when the upper unit is stored in the base machine, and improves the efficiency and safety of work. SOLUTION: The method for storing the upper unit 30 includes a step of so disposing the upper unit 30 on the ground that the upper end (one end) 31 and the lower end (the other end) 32 of the upper unit 30 become horizontal, a step of attaching a drawing-in wire (drawing-in cable) 50 to the lower end 32 side of the upper unit 30, a step of hooking the tip of the drawing-in wire 50 on an auger wire (lifting cable) W1 to draw in the auger wire (lifting cable) W1 to the lower end 32 side of the upper unit 30, a step of lifting the upper unit 30 while keeping it in a horizontal state, and a step of placing the upper unit 30 on a loading space 13 of a crane (base machine) 10.
