An input device of the type in which the user can simply operate the touch panel by hand while viewing the screen in front of the user and the accuracies of the hand shape and gesture detection are high. An input device for inputting a command or information into an apparatus comprises a body shape input section for capturing information on the user's body shape, a display information creating section for creating a display image necessary to input the command of the user or information, input, an operation section having an operation surface corresponding to the display image, a body shape extracting section for extracting a part of the body shape information corresponding to the operating surface and creating a body image, an image combining section for combining the display image created by the display information creating section and the body image created by the body shape extracting section, and a display section for displaying the image combined by the image combining section.
