<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium which is excellent in water resistance, solvent resistance, color development sensitivity and printing travelability (head scum resistance and stickiness resistance), and which uses no melamine-based resin. <P>SOLUTION: In this thermal recording medium, a thermal recording layer containing a colorless or light-colored electron-donating leuco dye and an electron-receiving developer is provided on a substrate, and a protective layer is provided on the thermal recording layer.
