PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge which can reduce erroneous detection of a transmission type optical sensor caused by ink scattered when the ink cartridge is attached and detached. SOLUTION: A detecting part 140 is set to make detection surfaces 140a and 140b extend in the vertical direction in a posture in which the ink cartridge 14 is fitted. Therefore, the ink stuck to the detection surfaces 140a and 140b flows and drips by its own weight. Even when the ink scatters from an ink supplying part 120 and a needle 49, the adhesion of ink to the detection surfaces 140a and 140b can be reduced, and the erroneous detection by an ink residual quantity detecting sensor 57 can be lessened. Moreover, the detecting part 140 is positioned upper than the ink supplying part 120 in the posture in which the ink cartridge 14 is fitted.
