PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a restart without requiring reset operation, even when dimming signal becomes unstable. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 turns off an on-off circuit 41, when a PWM detector 45 detects instability of a PWM signal prior to the operation of an output protecting circuit 43 operates. Thereafter, the PWM detector 45 turns on the on-off circuit 41, after the PWM signal has stabilized. As a result, since the output protecting circuit 43 will not shut down, the liquid crystal display device can be restarted by the PWM detector 45, without requiring the reset operation.
