PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging optical system or the like used in a high-specification (mega-pixel) imaging device. SOLUTION: The imaging optical system OS has at least three or more optical prisms PR making light from an object side pass, and at least one of the plurality of prism optical elements PR has positive power. At least one of optical acting surfaces included in the plurality of optical prisms PR is arranged to be eccentric. When light advances consecutively to the different optical prisms PR in the plurality of optical prisms PR, a light emitting surface in one optical prism PR and a light incident surface in the other optical prism PR are opposed to each other. At least one of combinations comprising two optical prisms PR included in the plurality of optical prisms PR satisfies a predetermined conditional expression, and also at least two transmission surfaces of the optical acting surfaces are made non-rotational symmetric surfaces.
