PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preloading device and preloading method for a rolling bearing, and a bearing unit, capable of imparting a preload while reducing an axial-directional space of the bearing unit. SOLUTION: In this preloading device for the rolling bearing, the preload is applied along an axial-direction a to make a clearance between the rolling bearings get 0 or negative, by snap-rings 21, 21 locked in grooves 20, 20 for the snap-rings provided in outer rings 12, 12 of the rolling bearing 11, 11'.
