PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper carrying device having an inexpensive configuration and enabling highly accurate carrying. SOLUTION: In this printer 10, a position of a carrying roller 20a at the time of the completion of constant-speed rotation is defined as a reference position, and a current phaseθ(initial phase) corresponding to the reference position is determined by parameter determination processing. Then, in accordance with a rotating amount of the carrying roller 20a with respect to the reference position, the current phaseθis updated. Therefore, even if an encoder 18 for LF cannot detect an origin, since the current phaseθof the carrying roller 20a can be determined by computing, this paper carrying device can perform highly accurate carrying while having an inexpensive configuration.
