PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost contact filter medium capable of efficiently removing heavy metals in wastewater and capable of also reducing BOD. SOLUTION: The contact filter medium is constituted by bonding a titanium phosphate type compound having an activation effect by no irradiation with light to the surface of the constituent matter of a contact filter medium having a heavy metal capturing capacity and manufactured by bonding a solution of the titanium phosphate type compound without being irradiated with light to the surface of the constituent matter of the contact filter medium before drying the contact filter medium. The titanium phosphate type compound is considered to be represented by Ti(OH)<SB>x</SB>(PO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>y</SB>(HPO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>z</SB>(H<SB>2</SB>PO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>l</SB>(OR)<SB>m</SB>(wherein R is a 1-4C alkyl group, x, y, z, l and m are each a numerical value of 0 or above and satisfy x+3y+2z+l+m=4).
