The thresher has a straw shaker downstream of the threshing mechanism set in vibration during harvesting by a drive connected to a control connected to a sensor set up to detect a measuring variable containing data on the through-flow of the material passing over the vibrator. The sensor can directly measure the speed of the material relative to the shaker, the thickness of the material mat present on the shaker, the load on the shaker and the grain losses at the end of the shaker. The control is operated to change the frequency and/or amplitude of the vibrating movement of the drive within predetermined limits to prevent damage to the shaker.
