<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a cleaning member is individually replaceable and a belt cleaning unit is highly accurately positioned, the belt cleaning unit is detachably disposed in the main body of the image forming apparatus independently of a belt and having the cleaning member. <P>SOLUTION: The belt cleaning unit 41 receives biasing force X1 of a biasing spring 77 that biases output terminals 76a and 76b, and receives force X2 in a diagonally forward downward direction as a result of receiving the rotating force of an output gear 64 meshed with an input gear 63. The belt cleaning unit 41 receives reaction force from the cleaning roller 40 rotationally driven in contact with and opposed to the transfer belt 38 at the time of a cleaning operation.
