摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for suppressing excessive temperature rise of a filter during PM regeneration. <P>SOLUTION: It is judged based on a quantity of accumulation of particulate matter in the filter and the temperature of the filter that there is a possibility of excessive temperature rise of the filter (S103). When it is judged that there is a possibility of excessive temperature rise of the filter, an exhaust throttle valve is closed (S104) to increase back pressure within the filter, thereby increasing the heat capacity of the interior of the filter so as not to increase the temperature of the filter any more.
