PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the influence of radio frequency interference (radio interference) in a multi-carrier data transmission system. SOLUTION: In the multi-carrier transmission system where interference easily occurs within a restricted band, a subcarrier is not used in the band. Furthermore, a dummy tone can be used to suppress transmission power within the restricted band, and a silent tone can be used so that a receiver can detect the interference from this band and cancel it. These dummy tone and silent tone can be made proximate to an edge of the restricted band under or above the edge or both under and above the edge. In particular, these measures may be applied to a VDSL system wherein a restricted band corresponds to a ham radio band. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
