PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an image without impairing a gradation in white-black level. SOLUTION: This image reading device has: a light receiving part 22 constituted of a light guide 26 which irradiates an object for irradiation with light from a light source 28 provided on the edge while diffusing the light in the main scanning direction and a plurality of line sensors 6a, 7a, 8a arranged in the main scanning direction to receive reflected light from the object for irradiation; shift registers 6c, 7c, 8c which are provided to the respective line sensors 6a, 7a, 8a to output light receiving signals acquired by the line sensors 6a, 7a, 8a; analog amplifiers 51-53 which are provided to the respective shift registers 6c, 7c, 8c to amplify the light receiving signals and an ASIC 105 which adjusts gain to the respective analog amplifiers 51-53 so that difference among the respective maximum values of the receiving signals output from the respective shift registers 6c, 7c, 8c is reduced when the light guide 26 irradiates a white object for irradiation with the light.
