PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a heat pipe suitable to cool a heating part located in a narrow space. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a heat pipe having at least one end of a metal pipe 1 as a heat absorption part comprises contracting the diameter of an end portion of the metal pipe, that forms the heat absorption part, closing the diameter-contracted part 1a by melting and solidifying, removing the tip of the closed part 1b to form a flat surface 1c (outer surface) substantially right-angled to the axial direction of the metal pipe 1, and providing a wick 2 or groove on the inner surface of at least the flat surface portion 1d. A heat pipe 3 manufactured by this method can easily cool a heating element located in a bottom portion of a hall-like space or the like since the flat surface 1c at the heat absorption part-side end of the metal pipe is a heat absorbing surface.
