963,201. Cigarette filter tip handling. K. KÍRBER. Aug. 3, 1960 [Oct. 7, 1959], No. 26875/60. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] Sextuple-length filter plugs 1, Fig. 1, delivered from a magazine to a grooved drum 4 are each sub-divided by knives 5 into three double-length plugs which are respectively transferred to narrow grooved drums 6a, 6b, 6c driven at the same peripheral speed but of sufficiently different diameter for the three plugs 1a, 1b, 1c to become so circumferentially spaced as to pass into successive flutes of a drum 8 on which they are aligned by side guides 17 for transference via drums 10, 12 to a drum 14 forming part of filter cigarette making machine. The drums 6a, 6b, 6c are mounted, each by three roller bearings 26, Fig. 3, on relatively eccentric support discs 22a clamped on a rod 20, and are driven by toothed portions 28a of a driving sleeve 29 which engage internal gears 27a. Reference is also made to former composite plug assemblies, either by additionally depositing plugs of another type on the drums 6a, 6b, 6c, or by duplicating the whole apparatus so as to supply single length plugs of another type which are deposited on the drum 14 on both sides of the existing double length plugs. Specifications 865,624 and 963,202 are referred to. |
